Exterior Basement Waterproofing

at | Category: Exterior Waterproofing

Installing an exterior waterproofing system at the footer level is one option for waterproofing a basement. One such method of exterior basement waterproofing is through exterior excavation. The process requires that the home’s foundation be dug up. This creates a large hole around your property before which anything in the way must be removed including pavements, furniture, decks and any landscaping.

After the large hole has been excavated a suitable basement waterproofing treatment is applied, either in the form of a membrane or a cement layer. The waterproof membrane or a waterproof coating will prevent water from entering the basement. In terms of coatings for basement waterproofing, most exterior treatments have a thick, tar-like consistency and can be applied by brush or spray. Additionally, to stop the water entering the basement from the exterior a French drain is installed around the bottom of the home’s foundation.

The best time to install an exterior waterproofing system at the footer level is when a house is under construction. Installing the footer level waterproofing system at an existing home will require a great deal of labor and is very expensive. The procedure is only carried out as a last resort.
